Please drive slowly (under 10 mph) on 48th Way NW. This quiet gravel road is shared by neighbors, walkers, pets, and wildlife who often cross along the way.
As one of our neighbors, E. K. Rice, beautifully puts it:
“A rural road may feel quiet and empty, but life abounds in many ways.”
Newts, garter snakes, squirrels, deer, and other small creatures sometimes cross the road, and neighbors frequently walk along this stretch as well. Driving slowly helps protect the wildlife, people, and peaceful atmosphere that make this place so special.
Thank you for helping care for this landscape as you arrive.
We sincerely appreciate your help in this regard!
We are about 15 minutes from downtown Olympia in a quiet rural area. It is a beautiful drive and we are actually very easy to find but I ask that you read my directions thoroughly since GPS often leads to the neighbors house:
Use this address for navigation:
7344 48th Way NW, Olympia, WA 98502
(There are two properties that share one driveway. The dome itself is located at 7418 which is to the left at the Y in the driveway).
Take Highway 101 North
(When the highway splits, stay right and keep following highway 101 toward Shelton... do NOT go left onto Highway 8.)
Take the Steamboat Island exit on the right (this is the first exit).
Veer left off the exit and pass the gas station on your right.
Turn right on to Steamboat Island road
Turn left on 41st Ave
Turn right on Oyster Bay Rd.
Turn right on Scott Rd. (this is at an angle and you can only turn right here).
Turn left onto 48th Way NW.
*This is a gravel road, so please drive very SLOWLY (under 10 mph). You’ll see a small Little Free Library on the corner.
Continue until you see a sign that says “End of County Road.” If you do not see this sign in front of you, then you have not gone far enough.
Just before that sign, turn RIGHT into the driveway at the open gate marked 7344 / 7418.
You will see a small wooden sign that reads “The Hive.”
When the driveway splits in a Y shape, stay LEFT, then follow the curve to the right when you see the larger geodesic dome in front of you.
There is a parking lot just past the big dome. Please be mindful of how you park so others can fit. If you come late, simply park behind other cars. DO not block the driveway to the small cottage.
There is additional overflow parking available in front of the large beige house next door (if you were to turn right at the Y in the driveway instead of left). If need be, you can always turn around and park over there.

Thank you for reading and following these directions carefully!
Accessibility:
There are no steps to enter the dome, just a small wooden bridge. The front door width is 32". Turn the door handle to the left or right to enter.
Facilities:
We have a mini split heater/ air conditioning unit inside and I have blankets, bolsters, chairs, yoga mats, tea, hot water etc. all on hand.
Please feel free to bring cozy socks and dress in layers depending on the weather. We request that you remove your shoes upon entering.
Restrooms:
We have an incinerating toilet located near the parking lot by the dome. Please read the instructions and always use a paper liner.
There is one step to enter.
We also have a trailer restroom that is often available. Please look for a sing on the door that says "Restroom" to know if it is ok to enter.
